The Cheezy Award: Boston’s Pizza Scene
When it comes to iconic eats in Boston, lobster rolls, Boston Baked Beans, and Boston Crème Pie often steal the spotlight. But there’s a surprising new contender in town that’s tantalizing the taste buds of locals and visitors alike.
A recent study conducted by Clever Real Estate revealed that Boston ranks as the third-best pizza city in America, boasting an impressive overall pizza score of 99 out of 100.
So, what factors contributed to this cheesy accolade? Clever Real Estate’s data team analyzed various metrics, including a pizza “reputation” survey of 1,000 Americans, average Yelp ratings for pizza restaurants, and average pizza prices, among others. Although Boston couldn’t clinch the top spot (that honor goes to Denver and Buffalo, N.Y.), it solidified its position as a pizza paradise.
With a staggering 12.3 pizza restaurants per 100,000 residents (a stark contrast to Dallas, which has the fewest at just 2.7), Boston offers an abundance of options for pizza enthusiasts. In fact, we have 46 percent more pizza joints compared to the average city. And the verdict from customers is in—Boston’s pizza spots boast an impressive average Yelp rating of 3.81 out of 5 stars.
If you’re willing to indulge in a cheesy delight, be prepared to open your wallet a bit wider. On average, a large cheese pizza in Boston costs .65, while a large pepperoni pizza will set you back around .05.
But the love for pizza in Boston doesn’t stop there. The city also scored an 88 out of 100 in the pizza passion metric, which measures how often locals search the web for pizza-related terms such as “pizza near me” or “pizza delivery.” That’s a whopping 22 percent higher than the average city’s score.
According to Google Trends data, Bostonians have a particular affinity for certain types of pizza. When it comes to online search interest, Boston ranks as the top city for flatbreads, second for Greek pizza, and third for Neapolitan-style pizza.
If your mouth is watering and you’re ready to savor a slice of heaven, explore the best pizza spots that Boston has to offer. Whether you’re a proud local or a curious traveler, you’ll find yourself in pizza paradise.
